Industry leaders gather to advance open data and data sharing practices
May 16, 2024
On March 26, 2024, the IDSP convened a virtual roundtable, bringing together representatives from the private sector and its IDSP affiliates, The GovLab and the Open Data Institute, to discuss best practices and to gather insights and recommendations to advance open data and data sharing practices in the private sector.
Key takeaways highlighted the diverse motivations driving private organizations to share data, such as fostering trust, transparency, innovation, and societal benefit. Effective strategies discussed included purpose-specific approaches, industry alliances, resource pooling, and collaborative awareness-building. However, challenges such as a risk-averse culture, regulatory uncertainties, and privacy and security concerns were identified, suggesting the need for stronger data governance and quality assurance mechanisms.
The publication of this report marks an important milestone in the IDSP’s efforts to advance private sector data sharing. We look forward to continuing our work to develop practical solutions and resources to support the private sector in their data sharing efforts.
