We are excited to introduce the Private Sector Data Sharing Community of Practice (CoP). This new initiative brings together a community of industry professionals to consider the legal, technical, and operational challenges associated with data sharing in the private sector. The collaborative environment provides a forum to share strategies and best practices to maximize the benefits of open data sharing while minimizing potential risks.

The CoP reflects the Industry Data for Society Partnership’s commitment to deliver practical, private sector-focused resources. The initiative was established in response to the discussions from the March 2024 Virtual Roundtable on Private Sector Data Sharing.

Each quarter, IDSP members will host sessions focused on priority topics that were identified during the roundtable. Summaries of each session will be published individually and later compiled into a Private Sector Data Sharing Toolkit.

Inaugural Session

Our first session, Legal Considerations for Data Sharing, led by Jeff Fougere (HPE), Senior Counsel for Data & Innovation at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), explored practical solutions such as data use agreements, safeguarding privacy, and AI’s role in streamlining legal processes. The discussion underscored the importance of balancing innovation with responsible legal safeguards to build trust and drive value in data sharing initiatives.

Highlights from the session were assembled into a reference resource, available here.

We invite industry professionals to participate in future sessions and contribute to this growing community. To learn more, contact us at info@industrydataforsociety.com.
